The sign
2022
The inspiration for this project came from the wall that I started to carve all over my house when I was a child before I could talk.
In China before, some Chinese people had a “bad manners” of carving "Here to visit" (到此一游)on the walls and stones of tourist places. But I think such a “bad manners”  is more like a desire for expression or performance. It is an attempt to prove that "I existed here. or "I existed here." , "I am this way." "I think this way." It's like the murals of ancient civilizations or the ancient Chinese inscriptions. It's about recording and expressing. It seems to me to be the most primitive impulse of expression.
Like the "Here to visit", it is indeed uncivilized in the perspective of modern society. But then I started to reflect on the fact that in my capacity as an expresser, sometimes I do feel a sense of shame about what I have expressed, what I have expressed or how I have expressed it. Or even give up the desire to express, or want to erase the expressions that have been made.
That may be because of "uncivilized", "shame" reasons or because of the desire to give up the expression, I will finally sandpaper the content of the square until it disappears.
